Software!? Yes, though there are a lots of encryption/decryption softwares available, Crypt stands apart from all. Specifically,
having tried a number of encryption utilities I found that though each had some special feature to offer, yet none was something
all-in-all. Some were light weight but difficult to use, some were easy in interface but very slow and some which were fast would
have a fancy (heavy) GUI with unnecessary setup procedures which would first ask for administrative privileges and then go on to modify everything
from the Registry keys to the file associations and clob the disk with tens of undecipherable files with mysterious looking extensions. And when you
are through with the installation you suddenly find that some other software has stopped working simply because some registry keys or critical dll files
have been modified. Crypt promises to be zero-impact on this front.
And still some, which promised on all counts would fail on one - properiety code. It becomes of paramount importance to know the source code
of an encryption software (more than of any other software) because users ought to know that a software which promises to encrypt and secure their data actually does so.
Specifically, I was looking for something simple - which does its job and only its job and nothing else.
That was the motive behind Crypt - an open-source, ultra-fast light-weight encryption utility with no installation procedures.
